Teen Depression Worsens with Marijuana Use
A new report from the US Office of National Drug Control Policy has concluded that depressed teens who self-medicate by using marijuana risk compounding their symptoms. Also reported was the fact that depressed teens are more than twice as likely as their non-depressed peers to abuse or become addicted to the drug. Smoking marijuana was also found to increase the risk of developing mental disorders by more than 40 percent. While marijuana use among teens has declined 25 percent over the past 7 years, more teens use the drug than all other illegal drugs combined.
