Mercury in Dental Fillings Dangerous

Some consumer groups contend that the mercury contained in amalgam dental fillings poses a health threat to those that have them and can trigger a range of problems, including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease; and while the US Food and Drug Administration has long denied that amalgam fillings put people’s health at risk, it has now acknowledged that the filling material can lead to health problems in pregnant women, children, and fetuses. The FDA now says that the mercury contained in dental amalgams can have neurotoxic effects on the developing nervous systems of fetuses and children and is particularly dangerous for individuals who already have high levels of mercury in their bodies.
