Melanoma Treatment Success with Cloned Cells

Scientists have announced the successful treatment of melanoma using a patient's own cloned immune cells. The patient, who had been told prior to this treatment that he had only a year to live, was still cancer free two years after the experimental study. By pinpointing the specific immune system cells attacking the cancer growing in his body, removing them, cloning them, and then infusing billions of the cells back into his body, researchers were able to boost the subject's immune response enough to eradicate the advanced skin cancer which had already spread to his lymph nodes and lungs. It is unclear why the treatment was less successful in the eight other study participants.
